Come along with the Friends

Throughout the year the Friends actively engage visitors and community members in activities and educational events about the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument. There are a range of opportunities to learn more about the Monument, including Hike & Learn programs, community science projects, stewardship days, and larger community-building events.

Paint Days; A Painting Expedition - Exploring In and Around the CSNM

Join us to celebrate the Monument’s 25th anniversary with a gallery show displayed at the KS Wild office for the first Friday in May. There will be refreshments and music by Musty the Caterpillar.

When: Friday, May 2nd from 5:00 - 7:00 PM

Where: 562 A Street between 4th & 5th Streets

In Celebration of the Monument's 25th Anniversary, a show of work by a diverse group of landscape painters brought together by their love of painting on location, and the value they place on maintaining wilderness landscapes. They gather to spend four days immersed in the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument, capturing its striking landscapes through their art. Their process often requires hiking and carrying supplies into remote areas, painting from both public lands and private property within the Monument, as well as taking in the expansive views from the Siskiyou Mountains’ highest peak, Mt. Ashland.

The paintings are for sale, and a small portion of the purchase price goes to the Friends of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument, a non-profit that promotes awareness of the Monument’s unique biological diversity, landscape, and cultural history.  The exhibit is hosted by KS Wild, a non-profit that helps to protect wildlands, watersheds, and wildlife in the Klamath Siskiyou ecosystem.

community Events

The Friends of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument participate in several public events each year.

Earth Day

SOU’s Rogue Earth Day is held at The Farm at SOU on the Friday closest to April 22nd. We host a booth with kids activities, maps, and general information about the Monument.

Ashland 4th Of July Festival

Downtown Ashland, next to Lithia Park, is hopping after the parade on the 4th of July. We provide information about the Monument, sell t-shirts and hats, and give away maps and stickers.

Bear Creek Salmon Festival

On the first Saturday in October the Bear Creek Salmon Festival is in full swing at North Mountain Park in Ashland. This event celebrates salmon, watershed connections, and the natural world around us. Visit our booth for activities for kids and fun facts about the Monument.

National Public Lands Day

Annually on the fourth Saturday of September. Join in on the nation's largest single-day volunteer event on public lands!

To celebrate National Public Lands Day, the Friends and our volunteers assist BLM staff with a restoration project in the Monument. These restoration projects provide a head start for the recovery of the plants and animals that call the Monument home.

In 2022 volunteers removed almost 1,000 feet of unneeded fencing along the Green Springs Mountain Trail, reopening an important wildlife corridor while improving the trail's natural aesthetic. In 2018 the Friends, along with 30 community members, reconstructed a livestock fence around Shoat Springs. In 2016 we helped with annual maintenance at the Hyatt Lake Campground. Work in 2014 was centered around decommissioning a road to Pilot Rock and completing the pit toilet at the trailhead. In 2013 we re-routed a trail and restored a meadow.
