Position: Summer Interpretive Rangers (Two)
Location: Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument
Duration: May 1, 2025 - August 15, 2025 (possible extension)
Hours: 15-25 hours per week (evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required)
Compensation: $20/hour + mileage reimbursement (federal rate)

As a Summer Interpretive Ranger, you'll gain hands-on experience in environmental education, conservation, and public engagement, perfect for launching a career in natural resources. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in one of the most ecologically diverse landscapes in the Pacific Northwest, connecting visitors to the beauty of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a weekly, daylong Nature Camp Monument Days for up to 15 children.

  • Plan and guide interpretive hikes for groups of up to 20 adults.

  • Staff the CSNM Visitor Information Center, offering respectful and accurate visitor engagement.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked Visitor Information Center.

  • Support Friends’ events and programs, including Hike & Learns and outreach booths.

Qualifications:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience leading outdoor education programs for adults and youth.

  • Knowledge of local ecology and cultural resources.

  • Attention to detail, professionalism, and customer service skills.

  • Wilderness First Aid & CPR certification required by June 15, 2025. Potential training opportunities available

  • Must have reliable transportation to CSNM.

  • Familiarity with CSNM is a plus.

  • Gear & Equipment: Rangers will be provided with a uniform, educational materials, and field equipment. Applicants should be prepared for outdoor conditions and must provide appropriate clothing and footwear for all conditions.

Work Environment:

This position requires extended standing and walking, sometimes over rough, steep terrain, in varying weather conditions, including moderate smoke exposure.
